About the role

Our Membership program is poised for rapid growth with a blend of special ticketed exhibitions and exhibitions highlighting our mission and deep interest in social justice. The Manager, Membership and Direct Marketing plays a key role in the acquisition, engagement, and retention of members by coordinating and executing multichannel membership campaigns and supporting a robust schedule of member communications. They will also support the expansion of our donor base by managing Annual Fund appeals and online giving channels. In addition, they are responsible for monitoring and reporting on campaign performance metrics to help the team make data-driven decisions to further optimize the Museum's fundraising program.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate efforts to acquire, engage, and retain members and donors through multiple channels, including direct mail, email, digital marketing, web copy, print collateral, and more by:
    • Working closely with the Director of Membership to establish strategic mailing and production calendars
    • Liaising with external vendors (consultants, list brokers, and mail houses) in the production of campaigns
    • Shepherding campaigns through design and content approval processes, often between many different stakeholders
  • Create and/or review copy related to Membership and Annual Fund initiatives to ensure alignment across channels and impact on constituents
  • Own and maintain the Development-wide communications calendar to ensure coordinated outreach efforts to various audiences
  • Partner with colleagues across the Museum to build a cohesive marketing and communications plan, ensuring that all efforts not only support member engagement and revenue generation but also reflect the Museum's fundraising strategy and current voice
  • Using the Tessitura CRM, create, maintain, and review membership mailing lists, utilizing segmentation strategies where appropriate to maximize engagement
  • Create weekly Membership fulfillment reports, and work with an offsite mail house on timely delivery of Membership materials
  • Conduct testing to further optimize messaging, timing, and formatting of campaigns
  • Analyze and report on campaign results and engagement trends to identify areas for continued growth and stewardship opportunity
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and/or at least three years of demonstrated experience in direct response marketing, project management, and/or digital fundraising in a museum or similar membership-based organization
  • Understanding of membership and philanthropy, as well as industry trends
  • Strong organizational skills, sharp attention to detail, and an appetite for problem solving
  • Excellent time management, capacity to handle multiple tasks, and ability to prioritize among competing deadlines
  • Diplomacy and enthusiasm when working with staff, volunteers, Museum Members, and the general public
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Experience working with fundraising software, such as Tessitura, and marketing platforms
  • Highly proficient in written and verbal communications, with strong grammar, vocabulary, and composition skills, a plus
Reports to: Director of Membership

Position type: Full-time

Salary: $69,360

Union status: Union-UAW Local 2110

FLSA status: Exempt

Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm. This position is subject to occasional overtime and weekend hours.
