Summary Description

This position is responsible and accountable for the safe operation of a complex facility that includes seven production units as well as plant utilities, waste water treatment unit and plant storage and handling facilities. The site handles multiple highly hazardous raw materials including but not limited to Ethylene Oxide, Acrylonitrile, Ammonia and Hydrogen Peroxide and produces 20 different amine and amine derivatives that go into commodity and specialty lines.


The primary objectives are to meet business area production requirements at the lowest total cost while meeting all safety, health and environmental regulations and requirements. Responsible for implementation of plant improvements and capital projects. Works with engineering group to ensure that the technology is in a constant state of improvement. Involved in longer range planning for the facilities with respect to plant outages/turnarounds that will allow for maintenance activities to be completed to ensure plant reliability and also be consistent with sales demand for various products.

Job Description

  • Provides overall direction to optimize plant operation in raw material and energy usage while meeting business area's volume requirement
  • Provides leadership to maintain high standards in the areas of safety, health, hygiene and environmental. Meets all internal and external requirements and make ongoing improvements in these areas.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with outside the plant groups to maintain a working relationship including the business area, sales, safety and engineering
  • Provides the leadership and direction to optimize the loading and shipping areas to meet the business area scheduling and volume requirements
  • Provides leadership and training as required to improve safety, quality and environmental programs while encouraging a participative, team-oriented work force.
  • Responsible and accountable for 13 cost centers with a yearly controllable budget of ~$50 million. Key member of the site leadership team; first in line as Site Manager Designee; onsite customer and product management interface; and Site Incident Commander during emergencies.
  • Serves as site customer interface with major customer on pipelined products. Key member of cross company sales and operating planning team (S&OP) responsible for scheduling all production runs and coordination.
  • Leads plant productivity
  • Sets, monitors and achieves key performance indicators
  • Provides technical feedback and assistance to the business group in dealing with outside customers
  • Visits customers as needed
  • Participates in local community affairs
  • Develops all area personnel to ensure suitable replacement for all positions
  • Maintains communication with management, employees, the business area, plant groups and others
  • Responsible in Site Manager's absence
  • Implements policies as set by the Central Safety Committee

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required. Chemical Engineering highly preferred.
  • MBA a plus
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in plant operations/management in the petrochemical industry along with strong leadership ability in production management and technical competence
