Forensic Social Work Supervisor, Trial Office (Brooklyn)

The Legal Aid Society's Juvenile Rights Practice has an opening for a Social Work Supervisor in the Brooklyn Trial Office. The Social Work Supervisor shares responsibility with other members of the borough supervisory team for the oversight of the Brooklyn social work practice and the general management and operation of the office. The Social Work Supervisor will be expected to take the lead in evaluating current social work practice and developing new protocols and strategies to respond to changing needs. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary practice and decision-making, prior supervisory responsibility and substantive experience in working with children, youth, and their families and the service systems with which they interact.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise the Assistant Social Work Supervisor
  • Create and support new approaches to meeting staff and client needs
  • Monitor social work practice and caseloads
  • Participate in decisions regarding allocation of social work resources
  • Ensure accountability and maintenance of practice standards
  • Identify and create opportunities for staff development
  • Provide emergency office and case coverage
  • Initiate and coordinate special projects
  • Provide in-service training and case consultation
  • Conduct case reviews and performance evaluations
  • Participate in staffing and personnel decisions
  • Maintain small caseload
  • Develop and implement procedures and policies
  • Participate in supervisory and management meetings
  • Represent the Practice at external meetings and conferences
  • Other duties assigned

Brooklyn - Juvenile Rights Practice Office
  • MSW degree and NYS License in Social Work
  • Five years of related experience
  • Knowledge of legal, juvenile justice, and/or child welfare systems
  • Supervisory and management experience required
  • Ability to work in and value collaborative team model
  • Demonstrated Leadership ability
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent research, writing, and computer skills
  • Demonstrated skills in advocacy, mediation and interviewing
  • Ability to work in and value a collaborative team model
  • Prior work history with JRP a plus

SALARY TRANSPARENCY

The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role. The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.

Salary Range/ Salary: $97,631 - $104,465
