About the Role

As the Manager of Marketing Strategy, you will be responsible for building and leading a more robust strategic planning process for HARMAN marketing. You will work closely with the divisional and cross-divisional marketing VPs in co-creating robust marketing strategies and plans that are grounded in facts, set the appropriate context for the priorities/must win battles, and make a compelling case for change.

As a brand strategy leader, this position will own Brand Strategy for all HARMAN brands, working to ensure distinctive brand positioning's and a unified consumer brand experience across regions, divisions, and channels with clear direction and governance.

Your Team

This position will report to the Director of Strategy & Analytics and work with a broader global marketing team

What You Will Do

Marketing Strategy:

  • Lead and execute the annual Global Marketing planning process to provide structure to the complex issues and business challenges, culminating in robust, fact-based marketing strategies and priorities to drive regional strategy development aligned to the global strategy, directly impacting $290 million in Marketing spend.
  • Shape and advance a modernized organizational approach to marketing by advancing Marketing organization capabilities through benchmarking and a deep understanding of the shifting market, consumer, and marketing landscapes.
  • Create and deliver strategic recommendations to the C-suite on key business issues that arise outside of the planning process.
  • Provide the organization with media strategy recommendations to ensure investments are fully aligned with marketing goals as well as post campaign/year end evaluation on ways to optimize going forward.

Brand Strategy:

  • Translate consumer understanding, brand equity insights, and competitive intelligence into implications and recommendations for how our brands express their timeless truths with timely expressions.
  • Lead re-positioning of brands as needed, building them upon the facts and insights, telling the brand story, and socializing for comprehension and alignment.
  • Guide and consult with the Brand teams to ensure that brand guidelines/marketing assets reflect the spirit and ambition of our brand strategies and branding architecture decisions strengthen rather than dilute our brands.

What You Need

  • Bachelor Degree in Communications, Sociology, Political Science or equivalent and comparable experience
  • 7+ years' experience in strategic consulting, marketing strategy development, brand planning.
  • Experience as a change-agent, inspiring cross-functional teams to leave behind the familiar and embrace new thinking and methods.
  • Exceptional storyteller with demonstrated ability to distill disparate data into a core set of insights and string those insights together to tell a compelling story that inspires a call to action among senior leaders.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data, input, and intuition to inform decisions.
  • Proven track record of building, selling in, and governing new ways of working and processes.
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a matrixed organization and lead cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Proven track record of setting an agenda - the ability to identify an organizational need and build strategies & plans to address; the ability to bring a sense of clarity and direction within potentially ambiguous contexts.
  • Strong history of influencing senior marketing executives and presenting to the C-suite stakeholders.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 10%, domestic and international travel
  • This position is 100% Remote but will need to be able to be in one of the three US offices as needed (Stamford, CT, Northridge, CA, or Novi, MI)
  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
